BaT Auction Success Story: Syncro Expedition Vanagon Goes to NYC

This post was originally published on this site

This just in from the buyers of the VW Vanagon Syncro that was listed here on BaT Auctions last December (link):

“Hey BaT,
For the better part of a year, we at Classic Car Club have been kicking around the idea of an overland rig. We first thought about building one from the ground up on a modern pickup platform, and while a Silverado would have made for great off-road capabilities, its ability to dub as shelter is a bit limited.  That lead to the hunt for something already equipped and made for the job.  Enter the Volkswagon Westfalia Syncro posted on Bring A Trailer.  Its then current owners had spent a few years living out of it as they criss-crossed South America, so it had already proven itself and it had a great, adventurous story that we wanted to continue.  With one minute left in the auction – we were late returning from a meeting outside of the club –  we threw a bid up and started the bidding battle.  We won the war.  We were excited to enter the overland family.

It’s not in Classic Car Club’s culture to put something like this Syncro on a flatbed delivery truck.  It’s too rad for that.  So Bob and Pat from CCC packed up a few cameras and tools, hopped on a flight to Florida and drove it back to CCC HQ in New York in one ferocious run. Always ones to share the adventure, they shot a film of the journey, which you can see here:

At Classic Car Club, we might be best-known for super exotics and American muscle, but our car culture digs deeper.  For us, cars and trucks are escape pods.  While we appreciate the automobiles as objects themselves, we are more interested in the adventures they lead to.  It’s all about wheel time and destinations for us.  Stay tuned for updates on our on mods and journeys.”
