This 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe was purchased in January 2012 by the seller and subsequently modified into a period-style hot rod. The interior was stripped and custom red-painted steel wheels were added along with a front anti-sway bar, rebuilt Houdaille lever shocks, a Stewart Warner electric tachometer, the original Philco AM radio, an aftermarket Craig Powerplay 8-track player, and much more as detailed below. The 276ci flathead V8 is paired with a column-shifted 3-speed manual transmission and has been built with an Isky 400 Jr camshaft, Offenhauser 400 cylinder heads, three Stromberg 97 carburetors, an Offenhauser triple intake, and Winterburn CD ignition. Service in the last two years included rebuilds of the engine and transmission, new tires, new springs, and a new clutch pressure plate. This 40 Ford Deluxe is offered with service records covering the seller’s ownership, literature, a collection of spares, and clean Ontario registration.
The car was refurbished prior to the seller’s purchase, and the acrylic paint is described as older with some imperfections. Parts said to be in need of replacement include the driver-side vent window seal and the passenger-side running board, as it exhibits rust at the rear.
Custom red-painted 15″ steel wheels from Stockton Wheel of California wear polished caps and measure 4.5″ wide up front and 6″ wide at the rear. Bias ply-style Firestone whitewall tires from Coker Tire measure 5.60 up front and 8.20 out back and were mounted in April 2018. The suspension utilizes a front anti-sway bar, rebuilt Houdaille lever shocks, and new springs from EATON Detroit Spring.
The stock interior has been stripped and insulated with a silver sound mat in place of the headliner. Tears in the seats are shown in detail in the gallery below, and replacement carpet has been added along with seat belts.
The factory steering wheel is retained, as is the original vacuum tube Philco AM radio mounted atop the body-colored dashboard. Other features include a telescoping antenna, a Stewart Warner electric tachometer, and an aftermarket Craig Powerplay 8-track player with Jensen speakers powered by a 6-to-12V power inverter. The seller reports that the speedometer gear has been updated to work with the larger rear tires, and the 5-digit odometer shows 47k miles, about 6k of which were added by the seller.

Shifting is through a 3-speed column-shifted manual transmission that was rebuilt in 2017 by VanPelt Sales of Milford, Ohio with new bearings, snap rings, shifter levers, and more. The 9″ clutch was rebuilt by Ft. Wayne Clutch & Driveline in Indiana with a new pressure plate, and the car retains its 3.78:1 banjo rear end.
